The Daily Times: Salman Taseer is the Emperor Akbar Reincarnated

The level of sycophancy that the Daily Times is displaying towards the new governor of Punjab (and the paper’s owner) Salman Taseer is getting a little alarming. Look at the first two headlines in the Lahore section of the paper today: Protesters camp at Governor’s House : Protesters will be offered water and food: Taseer1 and 7.6-foot tall man visits governor2. As an added bonus, the first story features a picture of Taseer being embraced by one of those ubiquitous little old ladies the Pakistani press loves to take pictures of in various postures of subservience. From the first story:

Member Provincial Assembly Uzma Bokhari said, “It is a matter of pride for us that after a long time a person with a political background is our governor. I appreciate the way the governor meets and listens to people.”
Faisal Shehzad, a physically challenged person and resident of Multan, said, “I am visiting the Governor’s House for the first time in my life. It is good that people like me can meet the governor.”
