Taseer takes drama to a new height: Appointment exposes fissures in PPP-PML-N coalition
Rehman describes the new governor of Punjab, Salmaan Taseer, as someone who “has variously been called a chartered accountant, a PPP stalwart, a media baron and a businessman who specialised in finding Gulf money for profitable ventures in Pakistan, is most significantly known for his pro-Musharraf views” Taseer was also elected as the Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives in the Caretaker government of PM Muhammad Mian Soomro for four months in the winter of 2007-2008. The PPP spokesperson Farhatullah Babar told reporters that the matter of Taseer’s appointment had been discussed with the PML-N chief minister of Punjab Khawaja Asif but Asif rejected the suggestion that he had approved the decision.

PPP has disappointed nation: Aitzaz
Aitzaz Ahsan, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association has expressed his disappointment with the PPP over the matter of the restoration of the judiciary. He said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani could easily issue an executive order and resolve the judiciary issue within three minutes and warned that the longer the lawyers’ movement was forced to continue, the more vulnerable it would be to “foreign hands.”

Lawyers Blame PPP for ‘betrayal’
On the one-year anniversary of the May 12 Karachi riots, lawyers condemned the PPP for failing to honor the Murree accord which called for the restoration of the judiciary. They termed the MQM a terrorist organization and called for its complete ban and supported the PML-N for their decision to quit the federal cabinet.
